Scientific research suggests that a mindfulness practice supports:
🌿 Anxiety Relief
Meta-analysis of 209 studies found mindfulness meditation produces moderate to large reductions in anxiety symptoms, with effects lasting months after training (Khoury et al., 2013, Clinical Psychology Review)
😴 Improved Sleep Quality
Mindfulness-based interventions improve sleep quality scores by 42% and reduce sleep disturbances in both healthy adults and those with insomnia (Rusch et al., 2019, Annals of Behavioral Medicine)
🫀 Blood Pressure Reduction
Regular mindfulness practice lowers systolic blood pressure by an average of 5mmHg and diastolic by 3mmHg (Hughes et al., 2013, American Journal of Hypertension)
🤧 Immune System Health
Mindfulness meditation increases antibody production by 25% and enhances immune cell activity (Davidson et al., 2003, Psychosomatic Medicine)
💙 Emotional Regulation
Brain imaging shows increased activity in prefrontal cortex areas responsible for emotional control after 8 weeks of mindfulness practice (Hölzel et al., 2011, Psychiatry Research)
🤓 Memory and Cognitive Function
Mindfulness training improves working memory capacity by 30% and increases cognitive flexibility in decision-making tasks (Zeidan et al., 2010, Consciousness and Cognition)

Feedback from previous mindfulness courses...
"I enjoyed all of it. It was great. The poems were beautiful and I loved it when you were chatting and responding. I thought your examples and analogies were great when you were illustrating your points. I particularly liked the moving meditation as it felt easier. Loved the body scan!"
"I enjoyed learning about mindfulness, the homework, and the opportunity to reflect with other members of the group. I thought you held the space really well. I also enjoyed listening to the other member's experiences. I also really appreciated the resources you shared."
"I loved the practical element of the course - it was good to get straight into mediation and then share our learnings and feelings. I really like how open everyone was to sharing how they were feeling and any challenges they faced."
"Katie was very warm and approachable. She offered to give her own time to speak to me about Meditation and my journey, when I was unable to attend a couple of classes. I felt I could be honest with her (you didn’t have to be a model student!) because she made not doing something or not feeling up to it or being distracted so normal! She is relatable rather than these wizard teachers whom you wonder whether where they get all their time from or whether they’re ever down or low!!"
About your teacher...
Katie discovered mindfulness in 2014 during a challenging period of life. She found the practice transformational, helping her to navigate life's highs and lows with greater ease and compassion.
Katie completed her mindfulness teacher training through Bangor University's post-graduate diploma and The Mindfulness Network's teacher certification over a period of 6 years. She also is registered with BAMBA (British Association of Mindfulness Approaches.)
She has a dedicated personal mindfulness and yoga practice and goes on regular silent meditation retreats.
Katie has also been a certified yoga teacher since 2016, trained in vinyasa, yin, restorative, seasonal yoga and pregnancy yoga.
Katie's approach is warm and welcoming, with the core value of empowering her participants to uncover their own inner wisdom.

The course might not be for you if...
➡️ You are currently going through a period of severe depression or mental illness. This doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t ever come on the course but it may mean waiting until you are a bit better.
➡️ You are looking for therapy - mindfulness may be therapeutic but it is not a form of therapy like other one to one of group therapies with qualified therapists and trained medical professionals. It may be that you can do the course alongside seeing a therapist though.
➡️ You have experienced a big life upheaval recently, such as a bereavement. It is wise to wait until you are a bit more settled before committing to the course.

-
Who is the course suitable for?The course is suitable for total newbies to meditation and mindfulness but also to experienced practitioners looking to deepen their practice or have the support of group learning.
-
What if I hate speaking in a group? We understand speaking in front of a group can be some people’s worst nightmare. There will be no pressure to speak each week, however, as you get to know the group better you may begin to feel more comfortable. There will be opportunities to talk in smaller groups of one or two as well throughout the course.
-
Where will the sessions be held? All of the sessions will be held in the main hall of Crantock Village Hall. This space is wheelchair accessible and there is a accessible toilet close by the space.
-
How many people will be in the course? The max number of participants will be 12 and minimum number 5.
-
What happens in each session? The course is very experiential, which means we learn mainly through meditating together and sharing experiences of the practice in a particular way guided by the teacher, called enquiry. There will be opportunities to share with the whole group and in pairs and groups of three. There is no pressure to share every week, it is just as valuable to listen at times.
-
What if I am on medication? You can still take part in the course if you are on medication but please let us know about this. It may be wise to consult your doctor or therapist before taking part if you are concerned.
-
What will I need for the sessions? You don't need any equipment to start the course, we provide mats and chairs. However, you may want to invest in a yoga mat and meditation cushion or bench for the sessions at some point and to practice with at home. However, you can use ordinary household cushions or a chair to sit on too and do the yoga movements on a rug or carpeted floor. We will talk you through all this before and during the course.
-
Can I join if I limited mobility?Absolutely. The mindful movement can be done on a chair or on the floor. If you are unsure or have particular accessibility needs please get in touch and we will do our absolute best to support you.
-
What kind of meditations will we practice? There will be meditations where we lie down on the floor, sit on the floor or a chair and also mindful movement practices such as walking and mindful yoga (which can be done in a chair too).
-
Is the course religious? The practices and methods taught in the program are deeply rooted in the ancient Buddhist practice of mindfulness meditation. However, the course itself is not religious as the course creators wanted to draw out the profound mental training methods from traditional mindfulness meditation and make them accessible to anyone, no matter what religious background or belief system. The Finding Peace Curriculum is also strongly influenced by modern psychology, neuroscience and pedagogy.
-
What is the history of the Finding Peace Curriculum? This course is based on the best-selling book Finding Peace in a Frantic World by Mark Williams and Danny Penman. Chris Cullen and Mark Williams from the University of Oxford developed a way of offering an 8-week mindfulness course in mainstream, everyday settings that uses the framework of this book. It introduces mindfulness and provides teaching support for developing a personal mindfulness practice, and invaluable resources. It is being taught in community settings, higher education settings, and in workplaces all over the world. Since January 2013 it has been taught to parliamentarians and their staff in the UK Houses of Parliament.
-
What is the difference between this 6 week course and the 8 week MBSR course? The 6 week Finding Peace in a Frantic world book is a lighter version of MBSR with shorter sessions and meditation home practice suggestions. This makes the Finding Peace Course ideal for beginners of those for whom the time commitment of the MBSR course makes it undoable.
-
Can I take part in the course if I am pregnant?Absolutely, mindfulness is a great support for pregnancy, birth and parenting. Katie is pregnancy yoga trained and found mindfulness invaluable during her own pregnancy and birth.
